WVU values academic research activities that increase fundamental knowledge within the discipline, creative activities (including performances and exhibitions) that reach out and serve humankind and applied research activities that yield tangible benefits to society. Research may be discipline-focused and individual, or it may be multi/trans/inter-disciplinary and collaborative. WVU values a wide range of research and scholarly work – scientific and translational research, public and community-engaged research and creative scholarship. As the only R1 institution in West Virginia, WVU is working to help change lives within the community, the state and the world.
