Jerry Carr
Morgantown/Kingwood NAACP: President
Jerry Carr Jr. is a plasma physicist and federal project manager for the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). He received his PhD and MS in physics from West Virginia University; he also has a BS in physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to joining NETL in 2016, he worked as an assistant professor of physics at Texas Lutheran University, an ORISE research assistant for the Spallation Neutron Source at ORNL and as a youth development program coordinator in Boston and Atlanta.
Jerry’s leadership and outreach as a physical scientist extends beyond his assignments at NETL. He tries to use his distinction as the first black PhD physicist from WVU to inspire others into pursuing their dreams in science and education. Jerry serves as a mentor for the Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program and volunteers with the West Virginia Science Bowl competitions. He also serves on the Monongalia/Marion Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA) Local Governing Board and as the president of the Morgantown/Kingwood Branch of the NAACP.
The local NAACP branch has over 100 members and multiple committees addressing political action, health, criminal justice, education and more. More information on how to connect and become involved can be found at www.morgantownnaacp.org.
